Australian Rare coins expected to fetch around $3 million

Rare coins are expected to fetch about $3 million - when they go under the hammer in Melbourne.The auction by Downies - of 5,850 gold coins plus 800 Australian copper and silver coins from the Reserve Bank of Australia - includes an 1852 Adelaide pound worth an estimated $55,000.Downies director Ken Downie said the auction, which will be held on Tuesday and Wednesday, could prove to be the largest of its kind in Australia as the RBA uses it to dispose of the last of its gold coin holdings.
