Cops use eBay to sell off seized car

The Arkansas City Police department will be selling a car seized in a criminal case on eBay beginning today. Proceeds from the sale will go to equipment for the department’s Drug Abuse Resistance Education (DARE) and School Resource Officers.
The car, a 1991 Corvette, was seized two years ago from a suspect in a counterfeiting case. The suspect had owned the car only for a few months, Chief Dan Givens said, and the car is reported in good condition.
“It was not used to haul drugs,” Givens said. “It has a leather interior and is in excellent shape.”
The car has had some custom work, Givens said. It is well equipped and gets over 30 miles per gallon.
A full description and several photograph will be available on the Web site for interested bidders. Bidding will began today and is scheduled to continue for 10 days. The starting bid is set at $7,500.
“This is a nice car, and I would encourage anyone who is looking for a Corvette to go to eBay and put in a bid,” Givens said.
Law enforcement may sell certain things they have seized in drug cases as well as some money-related cases.
