New eBay data center in Phoenix

Published November 6th, 2005

Internet auction house eBay Inc. will build a data center in Phoenix and hopes to have it open next year.
Officials with the San Jose-based online giant did not detail a site or the number of employees it will hire in the state. But the center will house engineering and technology professionals and be the seventh such location in the nation.
The eBay decision comes on the heels of an announcement by Google Inc. three weeks ago that it will open a facility in metro Phoenix, bringing 600 engineering, software development and technical support positions. And chip-maker Intel, Inc. announced plans over the summer to build a third computer chip plant in Chandler and hire 1,000 additional workers.
A handful of eBay workers are already set up in a small Phoenix office, working on the auction site and its PayPal online payment division.
