Shreveport Swindler’s Property for Auction Block
Published November 5th, 2005
More than a month before a Haughton man goes to trial on federal wire fraud and money laundering charges, law enforcement officers are auctioning off his personal property. Detectives with the Caddo-Shreveport White Collar Crimes Unit and the FBI began their investigation earlier this year into claims that Woodrow Hayes, 51, had swindled a Catholic order of nuns, called the Daughters of the Cross, into giving him more than $3.6 million dollars. “Mr. Hayes, the indictment alleges, approached them with a tale of woe in which he requested their financial help,” Bill Flanagan, First Assistant U. S. Attorney, told News 12 in May. Investigators allege Hayes then used the money to buy himself a fleet of dump trucks and customized vehicles, electronic equipment, expensive furniture, tools and clothing. During the course of their investigation, they seized all of the items.
The property goes up for sale Saturday at 10 a. m. at Lawler Auction House, 7781 Highway 1 North.
