Employee pleads guilty in online auction scam

A former city employee pleaded guilty Thursday in Chesapeake Circuit Court for his role in a scam to bilk the city’s online auction program.

John Earl Beasley, 28, faces a maximum punishment of 50 years in prison on two counts of embezzlement and one count of computer fraud. Judge S. Bernard Goodwyn is scheduled to sentence Beasley Jan. 12.
